Sometimes we have to step beyond our personal comfort zone to explore, to grow, or to take on unique challenges. So it was with successful real estate agent Donna Smith-Bradley nearly a decade ago. After many years as a Geographical Information Systems technician, which included operating her own business in the GIS discipline, Donna was in need of a change. It was time to try something new and different, something that connected her to people rather than a computer. At the suggestion of husband Allan and with his support, she chose real estate.

Given she is a detail person but also someone with a rather reticent personality, embarking on this fresh and unfamiliar profession suited her organizational abilities but it also tested her. It would be a new adventure, but one she welcomed.

Although signing on the bottom line is the main goal of a seller and of a buyer, for the realtor, the business is one of myriad recordkeeping, paperwork, advertising, contacting, information gathering, and being on-call 24/7. Provision of advice in a clear and concise manner, as well as developing relationships, are all part of each and every deal.

Assisting with the purchase of a home, which is one of the most important decisions and investments of people’s lives, is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. And in Donna’s opinion, is one that must be treated with respect, honesty, and constructive guidance. She applies these principles whether it be about buying a vacation cabin, recreational property, an acreage, or a residence—while lending her experience and knowledge without overwhelming the client.

Navigating constantly changing parameters and the ups and downs of the real estate landscape is something Donna enjoys—and are undertakings she guides both buyers and sellers through. ‘Being there’ for her clients is Donna’s strength, which they soon recognize and appreciate.
