Tsqúqw7e, pronounced ch-kokw-a, is the place name for the Chase Memorial Park area, meaning “a small bay” in Secwepemctsín (Secwépemc language). Interpretive signage created by the Secwépemc Landmarks Elders Advisory Committee describes Tsqúqw7e as the location of an ancestral Secwépemc village site where generations of Secwépemc cultivated metsúkw (black caps), tkwlóse (chokecherries), roots, and meláme (medicines), and speared salmon. Through using viewing portals in the sculpture and the QR code on the signage, community members can learn Secwépemc place names for the surrounding landscape, written and voiced by Cstélnec Elders through Chief Atahm school.
